Licensing and Open Source FAQ

Licensing FAQ

What is open source?

From Wikipedia: Open-source software (OSS) is a type of computer software in which source code is released under a license in which the copyright holder grants users the rights to use, study, change, and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose.

Why is Percussion releasing CMS 8.0 as open-source software?

We believe in the advantages of open-source licensing for our customers and the future of our products. Our source code is available for the community to use, enhance, and distribute under the AGPL3 license.

What is dual license?

Percussion CMS is dual-licensed  under both a Commercial and an Open-Source license.  Percussion customers with an active subscription agreement will continue operating with their current  commercial license. Individuals who access the open-source project will be governed by our AGPL3 agreement.

What is the advantage of a commercial licensed version?

The Percussion CMS commercial license includes access to hosting, customer support, enhanced installers, redirect manager, and more.  Our commercial license also insulates customers against copyleft risk of any proprietary integrations and enhancements.
