Percussion Rhythmyx 5.5

New Features

With the release of Rhythmyx 5.5, Percussion Software extends its leadership position in providing the first content management system for Mid-Tier Enterprises. Rhythmyx 5.5 is tailored for organizations that share the Mid-Tier need for the right balance between out-of-the-box functionality and customization capabilities, regardless of their revenue or number of employees. Rhythmyx 5.5's pre-built capabilities deliver real-time ROI, while its flexible customization capabilities allow customers to focus customization on projects that offer a measurable return, rather than on those that simply enable basic capabilities.

The following new ECM functionality is included in Rhythmyx 5.5:

Enhancements to the Web Content Management Module

  • Rhythmyx FastForward for WCM- a prepackaged WCM implementation designed to get your Web site under management in a short time frame

New Digital Asset Management Capabilities

  • New Digital Asset Editing- The Digital Asset Management Capabilities include a new Inline Image Editor which allows users to alter images within Rhythmyx

Enhancements to the Document Management Module

  • WebDAV Support- Enabling rapid end-user adoption, WebDAV allows content contributors to contribute content to Rhythmyx directly from familiar desktop tools, including Microsoft Office and other applications via Windows Web Folders.
  • New Text Extraction Capability- Enabling rapid end-user adoption, WebDAV allows content contributors to contribute content to Rhythmyx directly from familiar desktop tools, including Microsoft Office and other applications via Windows Web Folders.
  • Enhanced Search with Convera RetrievalWare technology- Convera RetrievalWare technology is now embedded in Rhythmyx to provide the most advanced search capabilities by leveraging concept, pattern and Boolean methods.

Enhancements to the ECM Foundation

The following capabilities are part of the ECM Foundation and are therefore available for the management of all types of content including: Web content, documents, digital assets, imaging and portal content.

  • New Collaboration Enhancements - New capabilities allow users to collaborate on Rhythmyx-managed content from Portals and various other enterprise applications.
  • Additional Browser Client Support - Rhythmyx adds browser support for Safari for Mac users and Mozilla for Windows users
  • WebDAV, Text Extraction, and Enhanced Search with Convera RetrievalWare technology

Enhancements to Rhythmyx Express Portal

  • New Platform Support for Rhythmyx Express Portal - Rhythmyx Express Portal is now supported on Linux and Solaris, in addition to the Windows platform

Enhancements to the Web Content Management Module

Rhythmyx FastForward for WCM - "More buy, less build"

Rhythmyx FastForward for WCM, the first of the Rhythmyx FastForward for ECM series, is a set of out-of-the-box capabilities that enables you to get your site under management rapidly, without sacrificing any of Rhythmyx's leading multi-site, multi-channel features. This provides a unique balance of immediate adoption with rapid future expansion.

Available as part of the Rhythmyx WCM Module, FastForward for WCM includes:

  • 10 pre-built Content Types: Home Page, Press Releases, Contacts, Events, Calendar, Generic Pages, Images, Files, Briefs and External Links / URL
  • Automatic list generation based on metadata to enable presentation and grouping of content, such as press releases sorted by date, partners listed in alphabetical orders, and events presented by location
  • Microsoft Word support to enable rapid end-user adoption
  • Rich editing capabilities: metadata management, versioning, revision tracking, document comparison and impact analysis
  • Active AssemblyT to graphically manage related content on your Web site, intranet or extranet pages
  • Out-of-the box workflows to optimize approval processes for each of the included Content Types
  • Site Folder Publishing to support full publish, incremental publish, and unpublish functionality

New Digital Asset Management Capabilities

Rhythmyx 5.5 introduces new Digital Asset Management (DAM) capabilities that meet core DAM requirements. Rhythmyx's DAM capabilities include:

  • Seamless WebDAV-based integration with popular digital asset creation tools, including Adobe Photoshop
  • Index and search of over 200 digital asset formats
  • Extensive library services and complete metadata management
  • Impact Analysis, a unique capability that reveals how specific digital assets are reused across channels and allows users to predict how changes to an asset could affect other content
  • A new Inline Image Editor

Rhythmyx's new Inline Image Editor features more than 20 of the most common image manipulations without forcing users out of the browser. The Inline Image Editor allows your content contributors to re-size, blur, sharpen, change brightness, crop, rotate, change dimensions, and add text to digital assets. The Inline Image Editor also allows content contributors to watermark or copyright digital assets.

Rhythmyx 5.5 adds many capabilities to the management of unstructured content, including:

Rapid End-User Adoption via WebDAV

End users need little or no training to be active participants in the content management lifecycle with Rhythmyx's 5.5 Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) support. The new WebDAV support (Level II compliance) allows all content contributors to check-in/check-out and edit content from Rhythmyx via any WebDAV-compliant application with drag-and-drop ease. Content contributors submit content with Rhythmyx seamlessly from familiar desktop applications via Microsoft Web Folders or WebDAV from Mac OS X. WebDAV support ensures that the content is still secured, approved and centralized by Rhythmyx.

New Text Extraction Capability

Rhythmyx 5.5 makes reusing content across various channels even easier by providing an automated Text Extraction capability. You can now "unlock" text from a specific file format and reuse it in a different context and format. The Text Extraction capability automates the extraction of text and metadata from over 200 file types for easy reuse in HTML, XML, PDFs and many other formats.

The new Text Extraction capability allows you to edit and target existing content for new audiences, rather than forcing you to use the same content for all your audiences.

  • A user of the Rhythmyx Document Management Module wants to extract certain information from several PDFs for use in one compound document.

Enhanced Search using Convera RetrievalWare

Rhythmyx 5.5 adds embedded, advanced search capabilities for Rhythmyx users. Using full-text search technology from Convera, a search industry leader, Rhythmyx allows users to search content created through a wide range of applications, including PDF, Word, HTML, text, video, audio, XML and many others. Users benefit from three types of search: concept, pattern and Boolean. RetrievalWare's advanced search capabilities extend beyond simple word matching with conceptual searches that adapt to the various ways that people express ideas. This conceptual search capability is bolstered by intuitive pattern searches and versatile Boolean searches that make RetrievalWare a "human-friendly" search solution.

Enhancements to the ECM Foundation

The following capabilities are part of the ECM Foundation and are therefore available for the management of all types of content including: Web content, documents, digital assets, imaging and portal content.

Collaboration Enhancements

Rhythmyx users can collaborate on Rhythmyx-managed content through portals, email and other applications. Enhancements to Rhythmyx's collaboration capabilities includes a universal link function, which allows users to cut and paste links to Rhythmyx content into emails and other applications where work-in-progress is discussed.

Additional Browser Client Support

In addition to supporting Internet Explorer V5+ and Netscape Communicator V7.0 +, Rhythmyx 5.5 introduces browser support for Safari for users on the Apple OS/X platform as well as Mozilla V1.5+ for Windows users.

Rapid End-User Adoption via WebDAV

Additional WebDAV usage scenarios include:

  1. A user of the Rhythmyx WCM Module saves an Excel spreadsheet to the intranet site by simply selecting the appropriate Rhythmyx content folder.
  2. A graphic artist using the Rhythmyx's Digital Asset Management capabilities edits an image with Adobe Photoshop and saves it in the appropriate Rhythmyx folder.

New Text Extraction Capability

Additional sample Text Extraction usage scenarios:

  1. Fifty PDFs are submitted into Rhythmyx and a "teaser" is automatically extracted for use as an abstract on the Web page that describes the PDFs.
  2. Multiple case studies in Word are imported into Rhythmyx to be reused on an Internet site. Text Extraction allows the copyright, header, footer, and page numbers to be removed since they are not needed on the Web site.
  3. A press release is submitted to Rhythmyx and the text is automatically extracted to prepare condensed versions to be reused for mobile devices and e-newsletters.

Enhanced Search using Convera RetrievalWare

The enhanced Search engine from Convera is also part of the ECM Foundation and therefore available for the management of all types of content.

Enhancements to Rhythmyx Express Portal

New Platform Support for Rhythmyx Express Portal

For organizations looking for a cost-effective workgroup portal solution, Percussion offers Rhythmyx Express Portal. The Rhythmyx Express Portal, based on J2EE standards, can be implemented quickly and easily while providing your organization the core portal capabilities is requires to be productive.

New for the Rhythmyx Express Portal V1.5 is the support of the Red Hat Linux and Sun Solaris platforms.
