Naval Postgraduate School Goes Live with Percussion's Rhythmyx WCM Software
Reference Librarians Turn Content Authors as Research-Intensive Naval Postgraduate School’s Dudley Knox Library Brings Rhythmyx Online
WOBURN, MA - February 5, 2007 - Percussion Software, a leading developer of Web Content Management (WCM) software for multi-channel, customer-centric applications, today announced that the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has gone live with Percussion's Rhythmyx system for Web Content Management (WCM). Rhythmyx is managing all content for NPS's Dudley Knox Library, simplifying content delivery and reuse for the librarians who use the WCM system to create subject-based research and tutorial materials for students.
The Naval Postgraduate School provides education and research programs that are relevant to the needs and interests of the Navy, Department of Defense, other military services and federal agencies. In 2004, NPS's Dudley Knox Library (DKL) was named "Federal Library of the Year," in large part due to its efforts in supporting the student body's advanced research requirements. Since going live with Rhythmyx in September, all of the DKL's reference librarians have become Rhythmyx content authors.
Alan Pires, Manager of Business Solutions in NPS's IT group, said, "Because our curriculum is very research-intensive and all of our students are at the graduate level, the library's Web site is by far the largest and most complex on campus. We needed a system that would allow our content authors - initially the reference librarians - who are subject matter experts to take control and ownership of their content with only minimal support from IT. In addition, we needed a system to provide them with the speed and agility to update content frequently and easily, in order to keep up with fast-paced changes and new developments in national security."
In the future, added Pires, his department will consider migrating more of the university's departments to working with Rhythmyx, enabling them to gain the same benefits as the library: quicker and easier content reuse, authorship in the hands of subject matter experts and reduced reliance on IT support and manual HTML coding.
Barry Reynolds, CEO of Percussion Software, said, "As a graduate school serving the nation's armed services with national security research and related education, NPS needed a robust system that could deliver maximum flexibility, ease of content reuse and minimal burden on IT staff. Rhythmyx's WCM capabilities are ideally suited for NPS's requirements. We are pleased to welcome NPS to the growing list of universities - including Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Bowling Green State University, University of London, HEC Montreal and the University of Rhode Island - that rely on Rhythmyx."
