Percussion Partner Release: Sybase Launches Universal User Experience Management Product to OEM Market
Sybase Mach Desktop Server Helps Software Vendors Improve User Experience and Expand Their Reach Through a Wide Range of Devices
CTIA WIRELESS 2004, ATLANTA, Ga. and DUBLIN, Calif. - March 22, 2004 -Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, today announced Sybase Mach Desktop, a lightweight content delivery and “user experience” server. Sybase Mach Desktop enables ISVs to easily deliver Web content, enterprise applications, voice-activated services and corporate data to a wide variety of computing devices including PCs, laptops, kiosks, PDAs and mobile phones. It reduces the time required to format and customize corporate information for each type of computing device, helping ISVs realize significant financial benefits and faster deployments. For end-users, Sybase Mach Desktop provides unified presentation and delivery of content from multiple applications and data sources, enabling them to make real-time decisions quickly and easily using information response mechanisms available on nearly any device.
“With the emerging demand for multiple user interface (UI) support, from Web-enabled applications to mobile data and voice driven applications, ISVs are challenged to adapt their applications’ UI to the way their customers want to work,” said Stephen Drake, program manager Mobile Infrastructure Software, IDC. “Vendors should look for OEM-ready UI management and content delivery products that help them reduce development overhead, delivery risks and on-going support costs, while getting them to market quickly.”
ISVs can quickly and easily embed the OEM-ready Sybase Mach Desktop Server into their solutions, allowing them to aggregate and present a wide range of content to an even wider group of users — including traditional Web, limited landscape and mobile device users at the edge of the network, all from a single server. For ISVs, a universal user experience management product will enable them to better fit their solutions to their customers’ requirements, and spur demand and adoption by increasing usability and end-user satisfaction.
“The complexity of managing the user experience has increased dramatically for ISVs in the past decade,” said Billy Ho, senior vice president, Sybase. “Sybase has developed a user experience management platform that will allow ISVs to deliver their applications with greater flexibility to adapt the user experience to the way the user works most effectively.”
“Developers are being challenged to bridge the gap between online applications and the new requirements for data-on-the-go,” said Chris S. Thomas, chief strategist at Intel. “Sybase Mach Desktop is all about integrating content and information and then delivering it to the numerous types of devices where users need to see or process it.”
Percussion Software Inc., an enterprise content management software supplier, embedded Sybase Mach Desktop into the Rhythmyxproduct line to provide its customers with a unified solution for accelerated content delivery in conjunction with its leading content management system.
“Sybase has great technology and a clear understanding of the specific needs we had as an OEM licensee,” said Barry Reynolds, president and CEO of Percussion Software, Inc. “With Sybase Mach Desktop Server, we were able to deliver new products in less than 45 days — from concept through to general availability — that allows our customers to quickly and efficiently access and manage their business critical enterprise content.”
Sybase Mach Desktop will be demonstrated March 22-24, 2004 at CTIA Wireless 2004 in Atlanta , Ga. Attendees can visit Sybase during the show at the Georgia World Congress Center in Intel’s Booth #4833.
