User Group Feedback

Posted by Vern Imrich on Friday, December 08, 2006

Sometimes, I think Blog should stand for back log, because more often than not, when the posts dry up, it's actually because there is too much going on to cram it all in. In this case, for me, November was filled with too many goings-on in the Web Content Management arena to keep up with. First up, our Percussion User Group meeting.

A meeting of the Percussion Rhythmyx User Group was held in Washington D.C. in mid-November. We had excellent turn out, which has been difficult in North America due to geography and travel requirements. As always, the meeting was very useful for the attendees, with several great customer presentations and lots of frank discussion about what is and is not a good idea for a content management application. Though Percussion hosts the event, these meetings are all about the customer experience, getting Rhythmyx developers and managers together to share and learn.

The reaction is almost always the same. People have no idea how similar their questions and struggles have been, and gain both knowledge and a sense of relief that these issues are bigger than their company, the product in use, or the project being done. Building the "right" content management applications for the business unit is as much art as science. I cannot stress enough how important it is for developers in the content management area to stay connected with each other, whether in person, or on line. Here, for example, is an open Rhythmyx implementation blog being done by IET. A good read.

Some specific lessons from the user group will be up next. Stay tuned.
